Course description:
Compared with previous recommendations, there are currently very few patients who require antibiotic prophylaxis (AP) prior to dental procedures. The purpose of this course is to help dental professionals understand the current guidelines for AP prior to dental procedures. We will examine the growing concern for antibiotic resistance and the role dental professionals have in antibiotic stewardship. This course will also focus on the 2021 AHA Scientific Statement which reaffirms the 2007 recommendations that emphasizes good oral health and regular access to dental care as more important that AP for a dental procedure.

• 2 of these credits must be in child abuse and can be obtain from a preapproved sourc

• All Above Dental Hygiene License CE Requirements
– 5 credit hours of the 20 must be in a public health related field
– the child abuse credit hours count towards this requirement

• Above Dental Hygiene License CE Requirements
– 3 credit hours in local anesthesia update or pharmacology

Did you know? The PDHA recommends that all hygienists keep proof of their CE certificates for the previous TWO renewal periods. The State Board of Dentistry can audit dental professionals for FOUR years prior to the current licensure period.
